Our History   Your Support Click    Thank you for your interest in our programs. I am Grandma Shirley. I am very proud to be able to offer the little help I can through my organization to Grandparent families. And, guess what, I very am happy to take you through the programs we used to offer the families that come to us for assistance. But, as I mentioned earlier, most of the programs are shut down because the organization has been heavily struck by financial and political difficulties recently. However, if you are still interested in knowing what we used to do, just relax and keep clicking as we go down through the following programs:

Grandparents Support Group (Shut down)

Grandparents Visitation & Child-Custody (Available)

Family Group Conferencing (Available)

Right Track Direction (Shut down)

Granny's Pantry (Shut down)

Grandparents Support Group — is a program for grandparents raising grandchildren to help them deal with the problems being parents again. GRC ran a TV Support program on Denver Community Television channel 58 for grandparents and relative care-givers to call in and ask questions or share their stories. This program is shut dowm
The program also offered Grandparenting/Parenting Classes to grandparents raising their grandchildren, and those who have in their care teenage moms. The program offers other relative care-givers new active parenting skills in new safety procedures in the home, to prevent the problems of child abuse, neglect and dependency. GRC provided food and clothing, furniture, etc., to cater for the essential domestic needs through GRC's Granny's Pantry program. Right now we still continue on a very small scale to provided food and clothing outside the program to assist families in need.

Great! We've gone through this program, and I hope you understand what it offers. Now, let's go to the next program by clicking on

Grandparents Seeking Visitation/custody — is a program for grandparents who are seeking visitation rights of their grandchildren in non-intact family situations, or custody of their grandchildren placed in foster care or in at-risk family situations.
GRC works with the whole family to resolve any conflicts or disagreements causing arrest in grandparental visitations by providing family group conferencing, which is, basically, family mediation. If no resolution is arrived at, or if a party does not want to go through mediation, only then do we offer the choice for legal proceedings. Usually, legal proceedings are only appropriate in child custody and adoption cases.
GRC tries to discourage courtroom proceedings as often as possible in visitation issues. We use court proceedings as the last resort when all efforts to resolve the issue through mediation fails.

Great! We've gone through this one too, and I hope you are getting the gist of it. If so, let's go to the next program by clicking on

Family Group Conferencing — brings grandparents and families together in discussing better placement of children, who may be at risk in the immediate family households, within the extended family. It also helps to solve family conflicts regarding grandparents' relationships and visitation with their grandchildren.

"Pro Se" Counseling helps and prepares grandparents to represent themselves in court. Grandparents legal proceedings involve a lot, and many attorneys don't want to deal with it. Those who do, charge extravagant sums of money that grandparents can't afford on legal battles. Grandparents would rather spend that kind of money on their grandchildren. In fact, it is difficult to find a good attorney for a "pro bono" litigation in this kind of legal issues. That is why GRC helps grandparents be their own attorneys in court.

Great! We've gone through this one too, and I'm glad you are enjoying the stroll.
As usual, let's go to the next program by clicking on

Right Direction — this is a juvenile crime prevention program, newly designed for at-risk teenage grandchildren raised by their grandparents. The program educates teenagers and provides them with tools for negotiating identity crises, traumatic grieving, development of self-worth/self-mastery, and academic/career-focused goal orientation (This program is awaiting funding to run on a full scale).

Wonderful!
We've gone through it all, and we're almost done. But, first, I would like to ask you to give me a little of your time to tell you something about our

Granny's Pantry program.

Granny's Pantry offers food, clothing, furniture and other domestic items to low-income grandparents and other relatives raising children. Many grandparents, especially, live on low fixed-income annually, and are almost always out of food for their grandchildren by the third week of the month. GRC is self-supporting, and is only able to assist grandparents through donations of money, food, clothing, and other gift items.
I ask you today to make a charitable donation, to help support our needy grandparent families provide adequately for their abandoned, neglected and orphaned grandchildren. Thank you for being so generous, and may God bless you abundantly.
